Oppikon is a former municipality and a village in the municipality of Bussnang in the Weinfelden district of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland .
From 1803 to 1995 the local community of Oppikon belonged to the municipal community of Bussnang. It consisted of the remote hamlets of Unter- and Oberoppikon, Eppenstein and Schmidshof. On January 1, 1996 , the former municipality of Oppikon merged as part of the Thurgau municipal reform to form the political municipality of Bussnang.
history
Oppikon was first mentioned in 1352 as Oppikon . The Uuirinchoua mentioned in 822 (?), 827 and 830 (?) Is identified by research with the later Schmidshof.
In the High Middle Ages , the area was under the influence of the Barons of Bussnang and Griesenberg . The Burgsäss of the Lords of Eppenstein , mentioned in a document in 1324, was destroyed by the Appenzell people in 1407 . From 1435 Oberoppikon and Eppenstein belonged to the dominion of Weinfelden and the lower court of Bussnang- Rothenhausen . The smaller part of Unteroppikon was part of the rule of Griesenberg , the larger part of a so-called high court , so it was subject to the federal governor of Thurgau for high and low jurisdiction. Schmidshof belonged to the Tobel rulership until 1798 , from 1798 to 1803 together with Oberoppikon to the municipal community of Zezikon and from 1803 to 1862 to the local community of Zezikon and Affeltrangen .
Ecclesiastically, the area always shared the fate of Bussnang.
The hamlets still have a largely rural character.
