Eppenstein (noble family)
The Eppenstein were a Habsburg-Austrian ministerial family of the 14th century in Thurgau in today's Switzerland.
The von Eppenstein family may come from Eppenstein in the former municipality of Oppikon near Bussnang. She was wealthy in the eastern and southern surroundings of Winterthur , including lakes and Wiesendangen . The family was related to the Phenli von Dienberg and the von Ottikon , with whom Eberhard, mentioned from 1302 and 1334, jointly owned an Austrian castle lehenhof in Ottenhausen in 1308 . From 1314 to 1334 he was the Austrian Vogt of Kyburg , 1324 also of Winterthur and 1327 of Glarus . In 1361 Johann and his son Johann moved their bailiwick to Iffwil . The last Eppenstein known by name is the Eppo, documented from 1384 to 1391. Members of the family still lived in Winterthur in the early 15th century.
