Las Rosas is a municipality in the center of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has about 25,000 inhabitants and an area of 235.6 km². The administrative center and largest town in the municipality is Las Rosas of the same name .
geography
The municipality of Las Rosas is centrally located in the Mexican state of Chiapas at altitudes between 700 m and 2400 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and is entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined to over 99% by limestone ; the predominant soil types are Leptosol (50%), Vertisol (26%) and Luvisol (23%). About 57% of the community area is taken up by arable land, 37% is forested.
The Municipio Las Rosas borders the Municipios Amatenango del Valle , Comitán de Domínguez , Socoltenango and Venustiano Carranza .

The 2010 census counted 25,530 people in 5,904 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1,346 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,084 speakers from the Tzeltal and 212 speakers from the Tzotzil . Almost 28 percent of the population were illiterate. 9,481 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 77% were men or 2.5% were unemployed. About 44% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
