Pichucalco is a municipality in the north of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has about 30,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​595.1 km². The administrative seat and largest town of the municipality is Pichucalco of the same name .

The name Pichucalco comes from Nahuatl and means "house of the wild boars".

The municipality of Pichucalco is located in the north of the Mexican state Chiapas at an altitude of less than 1300  m . Half of it belongs to the physiographic provinces of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and half of the southern coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined by 34% sandstone with 26% alluvion , 21% sandstone lutite and 10% andesite ; The predominant soil types are Luvisol (69%), Acrisol (20%) and Gleysol (7%). About 64% of the community area is taken up by pastureland, 20% is used for agriculture, 14% is forested.

The municipality of Pichucalco borders the municipalities Juárez , Ixtapangajoya , Ixtacomitán , Chapultenango , Francisco León , Ostuacán and Sunuapa and the state of Tabasco .

The 2010 census counted 29,813 people in 7,169 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 316 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 208 speakers of the Zoque . A good 16 percent of the population was illiterate. 11,036 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 76% were men and 2.3% were unemployed. A good 15% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
