Frontera Hidalgo is a municipality in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has over 12,000 inhabitants and an area of 94.4 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Frontera Hidalgo .
Frontera Hidalgo was called Frontera Díaz until 1989 . The current name is dedicated to the Mexican liberalist Miguel Hidalgo , previously the name honored the multiple president of Mexico Porfirio Díaz .

The Municipio Frontera Hidalgo is located in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas in the Soconusco region at heights below 100 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Costa de Chiapas . The geology of the municipality is 97% determined by Alluvionen , the predominant soil type is the Cambisol (92.5%). About 65% of the community area is used for arable farming, 34% is used for pasture land.
The Municipio Frontera Hidalgo borders the Municipios Metapa , Tuxtla Chico , Tapachula and Suchiate as well as the Republic of Guatemala .

In the 2010 census, 12,665 people were counted in 3,029 residential units in the municipality. Four of them were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . 17 percent of the population were illiterate. 4,186 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 79% were men and 1.9% were unemployed. More than 28% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
