Salto de Agua is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas . The municipality has about 57,000 inhabitants and an area of 1232.3 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the Salto de Agua of the same name .
The Misol-Ha waterfall is located in the municipality of Salto de Agua .

The municipality Salto de Agua is located in the north of the Mexican state Chiapas at an altitude of less than 1200 m . 89% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and 11% to the southern coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico ; it is entirely located in the Grijalva - Usumacinta hydrological region . The geology of the municipality is determined by 50% limestone with 25% sandstone and almost 11% each of sandstone lutite and alluvion ; the predominant soil types are Phaeozem (36%), Luvisol (34%) and Regosol (16%). Almost 47% of the community area is forested or used as pastureland, around five percent is used for arable farming.
The Municipio Salto de Agua borders the Municipios Palenque , Chilón , Tumbalá and Tila as well as the state of Tabasco .

In the 2010 census, 57,253 people were counted in 11,302 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 44,407 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 37,422 speakers from the Chol and 4,532 speakers from the Tzeltal . Over 28 percent of the population was illiterate. 15,923 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 92% were men and 0.7% were unemployed. 39% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
