La Grandeza is a municipality in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas . The municipality has about 7,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​48.9 km². The administrative seat and largest town of the municipality is La Grandeza of the same name .

The name La Grandeza means “the size” in Spanish ; until 1934 the name of the municipality was on San Antonio La Grandeza .

The municipality of La Grandeza is located in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas at altitudes between 1500  m and 2800  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . 97% of the geology of the municipality is determined by limestone ; The predominant soil types are Andosol (87%) and Acrisol (13%). About 61% of the community area is used as pastureland, 27% is used by arable land, and 10% is forested.

The municipality of La Grandeza borders the municipalities of Bella Vista , Bejucal de Ocampo , El Porvenir and Siltepec .

The 2010 census counted 7272 people in 1256 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 79 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 75 speakers of the Mam . A good 11 percent of the population was illiterate. 1964 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 86.5% were men and 0.6% were unemployed. A good 49% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
