San Andrés Duraznal is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas . The municipality has about 4500 inhabitants and an area of 38.5 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the San Andrés Duraznal of the same name .
The Municipio San Andrés Duraznal was established in 1999 as part of an agreement between the EZLN and the Mexican central government.
geography
The municipality of San Andrés Duraznal is located in the north-central part of the Mexican state Chiapas at altitudes between 300 m and 2300 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is 93.4% limestone with 6.6% sandstone - lutite ; the predominant soil types are Planosol (86%) and Luvisol (14%). About 73% of the community area is forested, 23% is used as pastureland.
The municipality of San Andrés Duraznal borders the municipalities of Simojovel , Pueblo Nuevo Solistahuacán and Jitotol .

In the 2010 census, 4545 people were counted in 905 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 3,912 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 3,581 speakers of the Tzotzil . A good 33 percent of the population was illiterate. 1160 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 93% were men and 2% were unemployed. Over 56% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
