Tecpatán is a municipality in the west of the Mexican state Chiapas . Tecpatán was the center of the Zoque culture . The name of this place comes from the Nahuatl and means "place of flint".

This municipality has about 41,000 inhabitants and is one of the largest in the state with 770.1 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the Tecpatán of the same name .

Tecpatán borders on the Municipios Ostuacán , Francisco León , Copainalá , Berriozábal , Ocozocoautla de Espinosa and Cintalapa as well as on the states of Veracruz and Tabasco .
