Solosuchiapa is a municipality in the north of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has about 8,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​156.8 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the Solosuchiapa of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Solosuchiapa is located in the north of the Mexican state Chiapas at an altitude of less than 1700  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is 54% sandstone - lutite with 39% limestone ; the predominant soil type is Luvisol (98%). 69% of the community area is taken up by pastureland, 27% is forested.

The municipality of Solosuchiapa borders on the municipalities of Ixtapangajoya , Amatán , Ixhuatán , Chapultenango and Ixtacomitán .

The 2010 census counted 8,065 people in 1,722 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1122 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 846 speakers of the Tzotzil and 232 speakers of the Zoque . A good 16.5 percent of the population was illiterate. 2334 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which almost 90% were men and 1.9% were unemployed. 34% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
