Frontera Comalapa is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas . The municipality has almost 67,000 inhabitants and an area of 767.1 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Frontera Comalapa .

The municipality of Frontera Comalapa is located in the southern part of the Mexican state Chiapas at heights between 400 m and 1700 m . 82 percent of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and 18% to the Cordillera Centroamericana and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is 66% limestone with 20% alluvion ; The predominant soil types are the Phaeozem (36%), Leptosol (34%) and Vertisol (18%). About 41% of the community area is taken up by pastureland, 31% is used for agriculture, 27% is forested.
The municipality of Frontera Comalapa borders the municipalities of La Trinitaria , Socoltenango , Chicomuselo , Bella Vista and Amatenango de la Frontera as well as the Republic of Guatemala .

The 2010 census counted 67,012 people in 15,430 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 990 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 455 speakers of the Mam and 266 speakers of the Kanjobal . Over 13 percent of the population was illiterate. 22,482 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 83% were men and 2.5% were unemployed. 33% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
