Aldama is a municipality in the center of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas . It has 5000 inhabitants, is 26.9 km² and has its administrative seat in Aldama of the same name .

geography

The Municipio Aldama is located in the center of the Mexican state Chiapas in the Altos region at altitudes between 700  m and 2300  m . It lies entirely in the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined by 56% sandstone - lutite with 44% siltstone - sandstone; the predominant soil types are Phaeozem (58%) and Luvisol (42%). About 52% of the community area is used for agriculture, about 47% is forested.

The municipality of Aldama borders the municipalities of Chenalhó , Chamula , Larráinzar and Santiago el Pinar .

population

In the 2010 census, 5072 people were counted in 861 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 4,157 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , of which 3,778 speakers of the Tzotzil language . Almost 28 percent of the population were illiterate. 1071 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 90% were men or 0.1% were unemployed. About 79% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
