Ángel Albino Corzo is a municipality in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas . The municipality was named after Ángel Albino Corzo , a governor of Chiapas'. Between 1973 and 1980 it was called Jaltenango .

The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is Jaltenango de la Paz . The municipality has about 27,000 inhabitants and is 583.5 km² in size.

The Municipio Ángel Albino Corzo is located in the southeast of the Mexican state Chiapas at heights between 500 m and 2500 m . It lies entirely in the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is 42% sandstone - limonite with 31% limestone - sandstone and 22% granite ; The predominant soil types are Leptosol (32%), Acrisol (25%) and Luvisol (17%). About 68% of the community area is forested, about 15% is used for agriculture.

It borders the municipalities of Chicomuselo , Montecristo de Guerrero , Siltepec , Capitán Luis Ángel Vidal , Mapastepec and La Concordia .

In the 2010 census, 26,628 people were counted in 5,407 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 808 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , 478 speakers of the Tzotzil , 111 speakers of the Tzeltal and 100 speakers of the Mam . About 20 percent of the population was illiterate. 8,641 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which around 84% were men and 1.7% were unemployed. 45% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
