Soyaló is a municipality in the center of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has about 10,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​96.4 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Soyaló .

Part of the Cañón del Sumidero National Park is located in the municipality of Soyaló.

geography

The municipality of Soyaló is centrally located in the Mexican state of Chiapas at heights between 300  m and 1900  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and is entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is 53% limestone with 39% sandstone - lutite ; The predominant soil types are the Regosol (71%) and Leptosol (22%). About 70% of the community area is forested, 18% is used for arable farming, 9% is used for pasture land.

The Municipio Soyaló borders on the Municipios Chicoasén , Bochil , Chiapa de Corzo , Ixtapa and Osumacinta .

In the 2010 census, 9740 people were counted in 2180 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 2,691 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 2,559 speakers of the Tzotzil . A good 21 percent of the population were illiterate. 3,151 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 87% were men and 3% were unemployed. A good 30% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
