Bejucal de Ocampo is a municipality in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality is located in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas . The municipality has about 7,600 inhabitants and is 79 km² in size. The administrative seat is the Bejucal de Ocampo of the same name , while the largest town in the municipality is Ojo de Agua Centro .
The name Bejucal comes from Nahuatl and means 'excess of lianas '. The nickname Ocampo is dedicated to the Mexican politician Melchor Ocampo .

The municipality of Bejucal de Ocampo is located in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas at altitudes between 700 m and 2900 m . It lies entirely in the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined by 76% limestone with 24% silty sandstone ; The predominant soil types are Andosol (62%) and Regosol (32%). About 63% of the community area is used as pastureland, almost 35% is forested.
The Municipio Bejucal de Ocampo borders the Municipios Bella Vista , Amatenango de la Frontera , Mazapa de Madero , La Grandeza and El Porvenir .

In the 2010 census, 7623 people were counted in 1321 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 85 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 81 speakers of the Mam . About 13 percent of the population was illiterate. 2188 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 92% were men or 1.6% were unemployed. Almost 52% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
