Montecristo de Guerrero is a municipality in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has 6900 inhabitants and is about 199 km². The largest town and administrative center is the Montecristo de Guerrero of the same name .

Part of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve is in the territory of the Municipios.

The municipality of Montecristo de Guerrero is located in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas at altitudes between 800  m and 2800  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined by 43% limestone - sandstone with 22% granite , 21% silty sandstone and 12% tuff ; The predominant soil types are Leptosol (51%), Cambisol (23%) and Luvisol (14%). About 88% of the community area is forested, 10% is used for agriculture.

The municipality of Montecristo de Guerrero borders the municipalities of Mapastepec and Ángel Albino Corzo .

In the 2010 census, 6900 people in 1340 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 79 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . About 21 percent of the population was illiterate. 1996 residents were registered as economically active, of whom 93% were men and 1% were unemployed. Almost 43% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
