Maravilla Tenejapa is a municipality in the east of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has about 11,500 inhabitants and an area of 637.1 km². The administrative seat and largest town of the municipality created in 1999 is the Maravilla Tenejapa of the same name .
geography
The municipality of Maravilla Tenejapa is located in the east of the Mexican state Chiapas at heights between 100 m and 1100 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and is entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined by 59% limestone with 40% sandstone - lutite ; the predominant soil types are Leptosol (34%), Luvisol (28%) and Phaeozem (15%). 78% of the community area is forested, 18% is used as pastureland.
The municipality of Maravilla Tenejapa borders the municipalities of Las Margaritas , Ocosingo and Marqués de Comillas, as well as the Republic of Guatemala .

In the 2010 census, 11,451 people in 1,992 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 4,501 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 1,265 speakers of Tzotzil , 963 speakers of Tzeltal , 800 speakers of Chol , 649 speakers of Kanjobal and 461 speakers of Tojolabal . A good 26 percent of the population was illiterate. 3,222 residents were registered as economically active, of which a good 95% were men and 1.5% were unemployed. A good 68% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
