Chicomuselo is a municipality in the central south of the Mexican state Chiapas . The municipality has about 31,500 inhabitants and an area of ​​999.9 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Chicomuselo .

The name Chicomuselo comes from Nahuatl and means 'place of the seven jaguars'.

The municipality of Chicomuselo is located in the central south of the Mexican state Chiapas at heights between 500  m and 2200  m . It is 64% part of the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and 36% part of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Grijalva - Usumacinta . The geology of the municipality is determined by 33% silty sandstone with 28% limestone and 27% limestone-sandstone; The predominant soil types are Leptosol (28%), Luvisol (22%), Regosol (20%) and Acrisol (12%). Half of the community area is forested, 43% are used for arable farming.

The municipality of Chicomuselo borders the municipalities of La Concordia , Socoltenango , Frontera Comalapa , Bella Vista , Siltepec and Ángel Albino Corzo .

In the 2010 census, 31,515 people in 6,753 residential units were counted in the municipality. 184 of these people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . Almost 18 percent of the population were illiterate. 9,597 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of whom over 91% were men or 5.8% were unemployed. Over 48% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
