Metapa is a municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas . It has about 5000 inhabitants and a surface of 27.3 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is Metapa de Domínguez .

geography

The municipality of Metapa is located in the south of the Mexican state Chiapas in the Soconusco region at an altitude of less than 200  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Cordillera Centroamericana and lies entirely in the hydrological region of Costa de Chiapas . The geology of the municipality is determined over 99% by alluvions ; the predominant soil types are Cambisol (83%), Fluvisol (9%) and Luvisol (8%). About 77% of the community area is used for agriculture, 18% is pasture land.

The municipality of Metapa borders the municipalities of Frontera Hidalgo and Tuxtla Chico and the Republic of Guatemala .

In the 2010 census, 5033 people were counted in 1262 residential units in the municipality. Four of them were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . 14 percent of the population were illiterate. 1707 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which a good 73% were men and 6% were unemployed. A good 16% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
