Club career

Robert Hategan was born as the eldest of three children of Luciano and Laura Hategan. The family later moved to California, in the Sacramento metropolitan area . After spending the rest of his life in Roseville , he was enrolled in the San Juan Soccer Club in Rancho Cordova . There he went through all divisions and was accepted into the academy of the United Soccer League franchise Sacramento Republic for the 2015/16 season .

On June 30, 2017, the franchise announced that it had signed the offensive player as the first ever academy player. In the relatively young history of the franchise, he was after Ryley Kraft , who had just signed a professional contract with Orlando City B shortly before the start of the season , the first second Academy player from Sacramento Republic to receive a professional contract. He made his debut in the professional squad on July 15 in a friendly against CF Pachuca , when he started from the start and was substituted at half time. On August 24, 2017, the then 16-year-old sat for the first time in a competitive game on the professional team's bench in a 2-2 home draw against Swope Park Rangers . On October 15, 2017, Hategan made his competitive debut in the last game of the United Soccer League 2017 when coach Paul Buckle came on for Hayden Partain in the 89th minute . In the 2018 game year he is also part of the professional team with which he signed a two-year contract the previous year. The team also has the option to extend its contract for the 2019 game year .

National team career

While he was still at the San Juan Soccer Club , Hategan made it into the US U-14 national team. Under the U-14 national coach Brian Johnson , he was appointed to the national team several times in 2014 and 2015. In April 2016, Shaun Tsakiris brought him to the US U-16 national team, which traveled to Europe and took part in the Tournament delle Nazioni . Here he was used in games against his peers from England and Brazil.

In 2018 he was named to the United States Under-18 selection. Under coach Omid Namazi , he took part in a large training camp in January 2018 and was called up for two test matches against the Costa Rican U-18 national team in early February. After a half-time operation in the first game, he scored the opening goal in the second game in a 3-0 win.
