The 7th United Soccer League season began with the regular season on March 25, 2017. It was raised to provisional Division II status (2nd division) by the United States Soccer Federation . The status of the original second-rate North American Soccer League was withdrawn for the 2018 season.
The Real Monarchs won the regular season . The subsequent play-offs were won for the first time by Louisville City FC by beating Swope Park Rangers 1-0 in the final .
mode
The regular sesaon took place from March to September 2017. In this, the clubs competed in a round-robin tournament with a return game against the other clubs from the same conference. The four other games were played against regional competitors from the same conference. The eight best clubs of the two conferences qualified for the play-offs, which were held from October 2017. In these the respective conference champions were determined, the two conference winners then met in the final on November 13, 2017.
Changes compared to 2016
On September 16, 2015, the association announced the expansion of the league to include Reno 1868 FC . On October 25, 2016, it was announced that the Tampa Bay Rowdies were moving from the North American Soccer League to the USL this season . Ottawa Fury also moved from NASL to USL this season. The new owner of Arizona United SC renamed the franchise Phoenix Rising in November 2016 and went by that name this season. On December 9, 2016, Montreal Impact signed a partner contract with Ottawa Fury , the previous farm team FC Montréal , which had played in the USL, was therefore dissolved. The Wilmington Hammerheads moved to the amateur league Premier Development League .
