Jimmy Nielsen (born August 6, 1977 in Aalborg ) is a former Danish football player and current coach . The goalkeeper currently played in the North American Major League Soccer at Sporting Kansas City in late 2013 . Since 2014 he has coached Oklahoma City Energy in the North American Soccer League .
Career
Jimmy Nielsen was born in Aalborg and started his football career at lower class FC B52 Aalborg before joining Aalborg BK . However, the tall goalkeeper signed his first professional contract with Millwall FC, who were playing in what was then the Football League First Division at the time. However, he made his professional debut at Aalborg BK after Nielsen did not play a competitive game in England. At Aalborg BK, Nielsen was the regular goalkeeper for over ten years and won the third championship in club history with Aalborg in the 1998/99 season .
On June 4, 2007 Nielsen signed a contract with Leicester City was there like at Millwall FC for no use. In the “Foxes” from Leicester, Nielsen couldn't get past Hungary's Márton Fülöp , so Nielsen decided to leave the East Midlands club during the winter transfer period .
On January 23, 2008, Nielsen signed a contract with Vejle BK in his Danish homeland .
In February 2010, Nielsen first signed for one season with the US Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City before extending it until the end of the 2011 season. At the end of 2013 he ended his active career as a football player.
Personal
Nielsen owes his nickname “Casino Jimmy” to his former U-21 team- mates Allan Kierstein Jepsen and Peter Degn . who played until the early hours of the morning in a casino in Vejle while preparing for a game of the Danish U-21 selection in 1999 . After this became public, all three were excluded from the national team. Nielsen is also nicknamed "The White Puma".
