Márton Fülöp (born May 3, 1983 in Budapest ; † November 12, 2015 ibid) was a Hungarian football goalkeeper .

Athletic career

In the summer of 2004, Fülöp moved to Tottenham Hotspur . After the move, he made his debut for the Hungarian national team . On December 9, 2006, he played his first game at Sunderland AFC , which ended in a 2-1 win over Luton Town . Two months later, on January 2, 2007, he officially moved to Sunderland. In the following three years Fülöp changed several times on loan to other clubs in order to collect match practice. In total, he played 44 league games for Sunderland AFC.

On August 5, 2010, Márton Fülöp moved to the English second division club Ipswich Town , in August 2011 to West Bromwich Albion . There he received a one-year contract.

Fülöp was diagnosed with arm cancer in 2013. In 2014 he planned to return to his professional career. He succumbed to his illness on November 12, 2015. On the day of his death, the Hungarian national team wore a mourning ribbon during the playoff game for the Euro 2016 in Norway . Roland Juhász said before the game: “It is tremendous pain, you are in our hearts, we are even more determined, we are playing for you today too. Rest in peace, Marci! ”The game ended 1-0 for Hungary.
