Roland Juhász [ ˈroland ˈjuhaːs ] (born July 1, 1983 in Cegléd , Pest County ) is a Hungarian football player who is under contract with Videoton FC . Before that he played successfully for several years in Belgium for the record champions RSC Anderlecht . Juhász has played for the Hungarian national football team since 2004 and is one of the Hungarian national players with the most international matches.

Club career

Juhász played in his youth (still as a striker) for MTK Budapest . He played 103 games for MTK in the first Hungarian league and scored 12 times. In 2003 he became Hungarian champion with MTK Budapest. In 2005, the defender moved to the Belgian 1st division for RSC Anderlecht and was four times Belgian champion with Anderlecht, won the Belgian Cup in 2008 and won the Supercup four times. In the UEFA Champions League, however, he always failed in the group stage or qualification, so in 2005/06 in the group against, among others, the two English representatives FC Liverpool and Chelsea FC , in 2006/07 in the group against the eventual winners AC Milan , 2007 / 08 against Fenerbahçe Istanbul in qualification, 2008/09 to BATE Baryssau in qualification, 2009/10 to Olympique Lyon in qualification, 2010/11 in qualification by penalty shoot-out to FK Partizan Belgrade , 2012/13 in the group stage at FC Málaga , AC Milan and Zenit Saint Petersburg . Twice were the last sixteen in the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Europa League against German clubs: in 2007/08 against FC Bayern Munich and in 2009/10 against HSV . After that, the tour through Europe was over twice in the round of 32 against Dutch clubs: 2010/11 against Ajax Amsterdam and 2011/12 against AZ Alkmaar . After moving back to his home country to Videoton FC , he became Hungarian champions again in 2015, but was eliminated in the UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round against Belarusian champions BATE Baryssau.

National team

Juhász is a Hungarian international and represented his country for the first time on April 25, 2004 in Zalaegerszeg in a 3-2 friendly match against Japan . He was in the starting line-up and scored the 2-0 lead with his first international goal in the 66th minute. Almost eight months later, he wore the captain's armband for the first time in his tenth international match at the 2004 King's Cup in Bangkok against Estonia . He was used regularly over the next few years and took the Hungarians onto the field as captain a total of 18 times. But he was unable to qualify for a major football tournament with Hungary several times. Only in the playoffs for the 2016 European Championship against Norway did Hungary again qualify for a European Championship finals after 44 years and thus qualify for a major football tournament 30 years after the last World Cup participation. Juhász, who was used in nine qualifying games, was not used in the playoff games and only sat on the bench for the second leg.

On May 9th, he was appointed to the provisional EM squad and then after the friendly against Ivory Coast , in which he played for over 90 minutes, he was also considered for the final squad.

At the beginning of the European Championship he had played the fourth most international matches for Hungary with 91 internationals after the record national player Gábor Király and the old international József Bozsik and László Fazekas and scored six goals. In the opening game, however, he first sat on the bench. From the second game against Iceland, he moved up the defensive chain for the injured Attila Fiola and played three games until he was eliminated in the round of 16.
