Tacoma Defiance , former Seattle Sounders 2 , is a franchise of professional football - League USL Championship from Tacoma , Washington . The franchise is majority owned by the Seattle Sounders from Major League Soccer and serves as the farm team for the Sounders.
history
Following the dissolution of the MLS Reserve Division and a cooperation agreement between the United Soccer League and Major League Soccer , the Seattle Sounders 2 were announced on October 14, 2014 as the new United Soccer League franchise for the 2015 season. The franchise is owned 80 percent by the Seattle Sounders from Major League Soccer and 20 percent by the Sounders Community Trust , a fan-owned non-profit organization . The Seattle Sounders 2 serve as the Seattle Sounders' farm team . The first head coach in franchise history was Ezra Hendrickson , who had previously been an assistant coach on the MLS team.
For the 2019 season , the franchise was renamed Tacoma Defiance and received a new logo.
Stadion
In the 2015 , 2016 and 2017 seasons, the team played at Starfire Sports in Tukwila , Washington . For the 2018 season , the franchise moved to Cheney Stadium in Tacoma , Washington .
