The Cheney Stadium is a sports stadium in Tacoma in the US state of Washington . The stadium opened in 1960 and was last renovated in 2011. It has a capacity of 6500 seats.

history

In 1957, local businessmen Ben Cheney and Clay Huntington came up with the idea of building a ballpark in Tacoma. Over the next three years, they managed to convince the owners of the San Francisco Giants to move their Triple A team from Phoenix to Tacoma , if a suitable stadium is available. The city council approved the project, and the stadium was built in just three and a half months.

In the following 51 years the stadium remained largely unchanged, so that its age became increasingly visible. That is why it was completely renovated and modernized from September 2010 to April 2011 within just 210 days.

use

The Tacoma Rainiers from the Pacific Coast League , the Tacoma Defiance from the USL Championship and the OL Reign from the National Women's Soccer League play their home games in the stadium.
