John Paul Hutchinson (born December 29, 1979 in Morwell ) is a former Maltese - Australian football player .

Career

Hutchinson began his career in the National Soccer League in early 1997 in the senior division of the Gippsland Falcons . After the club was dissolved at the end of the 2000/01 season, he moved to Northern Spirit FC , for which he played until the NSL was discontinued in 2004. As a result, he kept fit at Manly United in the New South Wales Premier League before signing a contract with the Central Coast Mariners for the newly created A-League in 2005 . In 2006 and 2008 the Mariners reached the championship finals. While he was unable to participate in the 2006 1-0 defeat by Sydney FC due to a knee injury, he was on the pitch in the 1-0 defeat of Newcastle United Jets in 2008 .

Although he was born and raised in Australia, he made his debut against the Czech Republic for the Maltese national team at the age of 29 in June 2009 . This was made possible because his grandmother came from Malta and emigrated to Australia several decades ago.
