The 2019 USL Championship is the ninth season of the league and the third as the official second division of the US and Canada. It began on March 9, 2019 and is expected to end on October 20 of the same year. 36 teams take part in the game, 35 of them from the United States and one from Canada.

Last year's regular season winner, FC Cincinnati , switched to Major League Soccer , while the current USL Cup winner is Louisville City FC .

Changes compared to the 2018 season

• The league name was changed from United Soccer League to USL Championship .
• A total of seven new franchises are starting operations - Austin Bold , Birmingham Legion FC , El Paso Locomotive , Hartford Athletic , Loudoun United , Memphis 901 FC and New Mexico United .
• Four franchises no longer participate in the league. The FC Cincinnati joined the Major League Soccer , the Richmond Kickers and the Toronto FC II in the USL League One . The Penn FC is also planning a change in the League One, but only for the season 2020th
• The Saint Louis FC and the Swope Park Rangers have been reclassified from the Western to the Eastern Conference, so have both Conferences the same number of participants.
• Overall, the games will take place within 33 weeks. Each team plays 34 games in the regular season.

In the 2019 season, 36 franchises will take part in the USL Championship, 35 of which are located in the United States and one in Canada . The teams marked with a blue dot on the map divided by the Arkansas River play in the Western, those marked with a red dot in the Eastern Conference.
