The Ottawa Fury Football Club , commonly known as the Ottawa Fury , is a Canadian football - Franchise of the USL Championship in Ottawa .

The team was founded in 2011 and played in the North American Soccer League from 2014 to 2016 .

The team is an official partner of the Major League Soccer franchise Montreal Impact .

history

From 2005 to 2013, the Ottawa Fury SC franchise existed , which played in the USL Premier Development League (USL PDL).

On June 20, 2011, NASL announced that an expansion team from Ottawa will join the league for the 2014 season. The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) should act as the owner of the franchise. After joining the NASL, the previous Ottawa Fury SC franchise was dissolved.

A Name the Team Contest was held to select the name . On February 26, 2013 it was announced that the name Ottawa Fury Football Club has the most votes and the team will therefore bear this name.

The first season could be concluded with three wins, one draw and five defeats in the middle of the table. The autumn season, however, was disappointing, so that the play-offs in the result were clearly missed.

The second year, however, was more successful. After another 6th place in spring, the team managed to secure the autumn title and thus a playoff place one match day before the end of the regular season. There you only had to give in to the New York Cosmos in the final .

The third year was again disappointing for the Fury, the spring season was going to be in 9th place and reaching the championship was clearly missed in an equally weak autumn season. Following the season, the owner OSEG announced that the team would be competing in the now upgraded United Soccer League from 2017 .

Stadion

The "Furies" have played their home games at TD Place Stadium in Lansdowne Park in The Glebe district since the 2014 fall season . It has a capacity of 24,000 spectators. The CFL team Ottawa RedBlacks from the same owner also plays its games there.

The home games in the spring 2014 season were played at the Keith Harris Stadium at Carleton University , as the renovation of the TD Place Stadium was not yet completed.

organization

owner

The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) consists of members John Ruddy, Jeff Hunt, Bill Shenkman, John Pugh and Roger Greenberg. During the first season, all games were broadcast on local Rogers TV Ottawa . The games can be received on the radio via the TSN 1200 transmitter . The games can be received in French via 94.5 Unique FM .
