Herriman [ ˈhɛrɪmən ] is a city in Salt Lake County in the US state of Utah . According to the last census in 2010, Herriman had 21,785 inhabitants. Since it was incorporated in 1999, Herriman has grown rapidly, as in 2000 there were only 1523 inhabitants. The last estimate from 2019 is now at 51,348 inhabitants, which means the city is now 32nd in terms of population in the state of Utah. The city's extreme growth in recent years is primarily due to its location between Utah County and Salt Lake Counties and the high availability of land.

history

Herriman was founded in 1852 by Henry Herriman, Thomas Jefferson Butterfield, John Jay Stocking, and Robert Cowan Petty. At the site of today's city park, a fort was built, of which only two robinia remain . The fort was abandoned in 1857.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city covers an area of ​​52.5 km² (20.3 square miles). Currently the city continues to grow towards the west and east. The last expansion took place in 2018 when part of the grounds of the Kennecott Utah Copper- operated copper mine was incorporated.

Herriman is bordered by Riverton to the east, South Jordan to the north and Bluffdale to the southeast .

Sports

The Zions Bank Real Academy, the soccer training center of the Real Salt Lake team from Major League Soccer, is located in Herriman . The complex includes Zions Bank Stadium with 5000 seats, where the Real Monarchs from the United Soccer League and the Utah Warriors from Major League Rugby play their home games.
