Magdeburg marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Magdeburg Marathon is a marathon that has been organized in Magdeburg by the VLG 1991 Magdeburg since 2004 in the second half of October . In addition to the marathon route, a half marathon , a 10 km run (13 km up to 2014), a 4.2 km run and a 400 m children's run are offered. The previous record for participants was achieved in 2014 with over 6,000 registered runners (including the walking competitions). It is therefore the largest running event in Saxony-Anhalt . A marathon relay was offered for the first time in 2016 .

route

Start and finish is at the Magdeburg trade fair.

Until 2015

From the start, it first went over the Elbe into the city center, where the Otto von Guericke monument, the town hall , the Magdeburger Reiter , the Hundertwasser House and the cathedral are passed, before you get to the Rotehornpark via Hegelstraße and the Sternbrücke . From there it goes on the right bank of the Elbe through the Elbauenpark with the millennium tower and the Herrenkrugpark . While the half-marathon runners return from here to the finish on the grounds of Messe Magdeburg, the marathon runners continue on the Elbe Cycle Path northwards via Lostau and Hohenwarthe to the Magdeburg waterway junction , whose trough bridge is crossed before returning to the same route Goal goes.

As of 2016

Due to construction work in the urban area of Magdeburg and on the section between Magdeburg and Hohenwarthe, the waterway intersection could no longer be approached. The route was therefore designed as a real city marathon and now leads from the fair across the Elbe, through the Alte Neustadt , past the science harbor to the banks of the Elbe, which is followed to the Klosterbergegarten . From there it goes into the city center, over the cathedral the route leads to the Rotehornpark and over the Werder back to the exhibition center. The marathon runners complete the route twice, the half marathon runners once.
