It is located north of the city of St. Gallen . The highest point in Wittenbach is on the "Peter und Paul" hill at 780 m above sea level. M. , the lowest point of the community is the bottom of the Steinach river at 490 m above sea level. M. The Hinterberg exclave in the area of the municipality of Häggenschwil belongs to the municipality . The partner communities of Wittenbach are Wilburgstetten and Selma . Dottenwil Castle is located in Wittenbach .

In Wittenbach, the main road 451 branches off to Arbon from the main road 471 St. Gallen - Amriswil - Scherzingen TG (- Kreuzlingen ). The A1.1 Meggenhus – Arbon West motorway slip road relieves Wittenbach of through traffic.
On October 3, 1910, the Bodensee-Toggenburg Railway (BT) was opened with the Bruggwald tunnel , which is largely located in the municipality of Wittenbach . The railway line has belonged to the Südostbahn (SOB) since 2001 and is part of the St. Gallen S-Bahn . The St. Gallen-Arbon, Wittenbach-Häggenschwil- Winden and Wittenbach- Bernhardzell post bus routes ensure that the public transport is well distributed . Since December 2018, the connection to and from St. Gallen has been ensured by bus line 4 of the VBSG , which is to be replaced by battery trolleybuses in 2020.
