Thomas Müller

Thomas Jakob Müller (born December 1, 1952 in Uzwil , entitled to live there and in Rorschach ) is a Swiss politician and was a member of the National Council from 2006 until his non-re-election in 2019 . He was originally a member of the CVP , but switched to the SVP in 2011 .

biography

Müller studied law at the University of Zurich , graduated with a licentiate and became a lawyer . From 1980 to 1984 he worked as a clerk at the District Court of Rorschach and from 1984 to 2003 was a partner in a law firm .

From 1985 to December 1996 he was in the legislature of the municipality of Rorschach . He has been the city ​​president of Rorschach since 2003 . From 1992 to 2000 he was in the cantonal council of St. Gallen and there, among other things, president of the judicial commission. In December 2006, he replaced the resigned Felix Walker in the National Council, where he was a member of the Legal Affairs Commission until 2007 and then the Finance Commission. He is also a board member of the Swiss Color Foundation .

In the German-Swiss conflict over the loosening of Swiss banking secrecy , Müller attracted attention when, in a parliamentary debate in March 2009 on the German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück , he said: “He reminds me of the generation of Germans who 60 years ago with leather coats, boots and Armband walked through the streets »dropped.

Müller lives in Rorschach, is married and has three children. In the Swiss Army he has the rank of first lieutenant . He was president of FC St. Gallen from 1997–2004 , during which time FC St. Gallen won its second championship title in 2000 .
