Urs Alfred Hofmann (born November 27, 1956 in Aarau ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ) and has been a member of the canton of Aargau since April 1, 2009 .

biography

After completing his law degree at the University of Zurich, he initially worked as an assistant at the university, and after completing his doctorate as a clerk in the building department of the canton of Aargau. In 1990, after receiving his notary's license, he opened a law and notary's office in Aarau.

He began his political career as a board member of the SP Aarau. From 1986 to 1996 he was city councilor of Aarau, from 1990 in the function of deputy mayor for one year. In 1997 he was elected to the Aargau Grand Council and its President in 1999. In the National Council elections in the same year he was elected to the National Council and resigned from the Grand Council. In the National Council he became a member of the Finance Commission of the National Council and the finance delegation of the federal councils . He chaired the finance delegation for two years. Hofmann was elected to the Aargau cantonal government on November 30, 2008 . He took up his post as head of the Department of Economics and Home Affairs on April 1, 2009. On March 2, 2009, Urs Hofmann resigned from the National Council as a result of his election to the Aargau Government Council. In 2011/2012 Urs Hofmann was Landammann of the Canton of Aargau; In 2019 he held this position for the third time.

From 1995 to 2009 Urs Hofmann was President of the Aargau Confederation of Trade Unions . He is married and has three children.
