Jean-Pierre Gallati (born August 24, 1966 in Muri AG ; legal resident in Näfels GL (Glarus Nord) ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ) and lawyer.

Life and work

Between 1973 and 1982 Jean-Pierre Gallati attended the primary school in Waltenschwil and the district school in Wohlen . From 1982 he attended the old canton school in Aarau , which he completed in 1986 with the Matura type A. Gallati graduated from the University of Zurich with a degree in law in 1993 . In 1994 he was admitted to the bar in the canton of Aargau. Gallati then worked for the Aargau building department as a legal adjunct in the legal department until 1998. He has had his own law office in Berikon since 1999 and is also active on various boards of directors in the construction, real estate, recycling and transport sectors. From 2016 until his election to the government council in November 2019, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Giezendanner Transport AG.

Political career

In 2006 Gallati was elected to the SVP for the residents' council of his municipality of Wohlen , of which he was a member until 2015. In 2009 he was elected to the Grand Council of Aargau. There he chaired the SVP parliamentary group until 2019. In the elections on October 20, 2019 , he was elected to the National Council. At the same time he ran for the seat of the government council, which had become vacant after the resignation of Franziska Roth . In the first ballot he received the most of the votes with 35.1%. Nevertheless, he missed the absolute majority. In the second ballot on November 24, 2019, he was elected to the Aargau government council with 1593 votes ahead of his opponent Yvonne Feri and with 50.5% of the votes.

Personal

Jean-Pierre Gallati is married and has a grown-up daughter. He lives in Wohlen .
