Antonio Hodgers (2013)

Antonio Hodgers (born February 7, 1976 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ) and was a member of the National Council from 2007 to 2013 and president of the Greens parliamentary group for the last three years in office . He has been a member of the government of the Canton of Geneva since 2013 .

biography

Antonio Hodgers came to Switzerland from Argentina with his mother and sister after his father lost his life to the Argentine military dictatorship . The family received political asylum. At the age of 15 he was naturalized ( dual citizen ) and immediately afterwards became involved in the youth parliament of his then place of residence Meyrin . From 1997 to 2007 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva. In 2003 he made headlines there because he was not elected Vice President by Parliament as planned. The reason was probably the participation in an anti-globalization rally during the G8 summit in Évian-les-Bains in 2003 , which turned into street battles in Geneva . In the 2007 elections he was elected to the National Council. At that time he was the youngest representative of French-speaking Switzerland in the National Council.

In 2012 he was invited - as one of the few personalities from French- speaking Switzerland - to give the speech on the Rütliwiese on the national holiday .

Antonio Hodgers worked as a mobility consultant and usually lives in Geneva. In 2010 he settled in Bern for a year to get to know German-speaking Switzerland better and to learn German.

On November 10, 2013 Antonio Hodgers was elected to the Geneva Government Council and resigned from the National Council shortly afterwards. His successor in the National Council was Anne Mahrer .
