Reto Wehrli (born February 1, 1965 in Zug ; legal resident in Wäldi ) is a Swiss lawyer and politician ( CVP ).

Wehrli got into politics early: in 1987 he was elected to the board of the CVP of the municipality of Steinen , in 1991 he became a member of the board of the CVP Canton Schwyz. From 1992 to 1994 he was a member of the school council of the municipality of Steinen, from June 2000 to November 2003 he was a member of the Cantonal Council of Schwyz . In 2003 he made the leap to the National Council.

During the 47th legislature , Wehrli was a member of the Legislative Commission for Social Security and Health (SGK-N) and the Commission for Pardons and Conflicts of Jurisdiction. Between March and December 2007 he was also a member of the delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) . After his re-election in 2007 , he remained a member of the delegation at the IPU and the SGK-N. During the 48th legislature , he also sat on the Foreign Policy Commission of the National Council and, from September 2009 until the end of the legislature, in the judicial commission, which he also chaired. In February 2011, Wehrli announced that he would no longer run in the 2011 parliamentary elections.

The National Councilor Wehrli will be remembered as a persistent fighter for joint parental rights, as spokesman for the SGK-N in connection with the 5th revision of the federal law on disability insurance ("5th IV revision") and as an important impetus for development a national strategy to reduce the burden on people with dementia and their families. Wehrli is still politically active at the cantonal level: since 2009 he has been Vice President of the CVP Canton of Schwyz.

Professional career

After studying law at the University of Zurich and admission as a lawyer and notary in 1993 , he received his doctorate in 1997 from the University of Basel .

Today he works in Schwyz, where he lives, as a co-owner of a law firm that he has built up since 1998 in parallel to his political commitment. In addition to his work as a lawyer and notary, he is President of the arbitration authority in the rental sector in the Schwyz district.

Wehrli is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the law firm Wehrli, Schuler und Partner, Auto AG Schwyz (AAGS), Schuler St. JakobsKellerei, Seewen-Schwyz, Tellco AG, Schwyz and Schuler-Beteiligungen AG. In addition to these business mandates, Wehrli is also heavily involved in associations and clubs. Among other things, he has been a board member of the Pro Kloster Einsiedeln Foundation and President of the Swiss Greina Foundation (SGS) since 2006 . From 2010 to 2017 he was President of the Board of Trustees of the Swiss Scout Foundation, the purpose of which is to support the work of the Swiss Scout Movement .

Wehrli is married and has four children.
