Maria Bernasconi

Maria Bernasconi (born September 14, 1955 in Zurich ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). She became known under the name Maria Roth-Bernasconi.

biography

Maria Bernasconi grew up as the second child of a family of seven from Ticino in Lucerne. After training as a nurse , she moved to Lancy in the canton of Geneva . In 1985 she joined the SP.

In 1989 Maria Bernasconi was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva. In 1995 she graduated from the University of Geneva with a law degree . From 1989 to 1991 she was president of the local SP section in Lancy.

In the elections in autumn 1995 she was elected to the National Council, which is why she gave up her mandate in the cantonal parliament. She was not re-elected in the 1999 elections.

From 2001 to 2003 she was a member of the Grand Council again before being elected to the National Council for the second time in the 2003 elections . It was confirmed in 2007 and 2011. In 2007 she became Vice-President of the Audit Commission , and from 2009 and 2011 its President.

From 2001 to 2012 she also served as co-president of the SP Women Switzerland. Since 2012, Maria Bernasconi has been General Secretary of the Federal Employees' Association (PVB) and a member of the board of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions .

Maria Bernasconi is married and has two children. She lives in Lancy.
