Hansruedi Stadler (born August 6, 1953 in Altdorf UR , resident in Bürglen UR ) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and a former member of the Council of States .

Life

From 1988 to 2000 Hansruedi Stadler was a councilor (member of the executive) of the Canton of Uri , and from 1992 to 1994 and from 1996 to 1998 mayor of Uri. In 1999 he was elected as a Councilor of States for the Canton of Uri . As a parliamentarian in Uri, he deals particularly with issues relating to the NEAT . Hansruedi Stadler was a member of the NEAT supervisory delegation . He sat on the Council of States until June 2010.

Hansruedi Stadler became known nationwide in 1994 as a proponent of the Federal People's Initiative "to protect the Alpine region from transit traffic" (Alpine Initiative). As Urner Landammann, he faced the popular Federal Councilor Adolf Ogi , who argued against the initiative on behalf of the state government, in the adversarial political broadcast Arena . The inconspicuous Landammann of Uri found his way around the show with humor and quick-wittedness, so that, according to general opinion, he made a decisive contribution to the acceptance of the initiative - 52% yes-votes nationwide, in Uri 87.5%.

In the run-up to the vote, Stadler had said that if the acceptance was seen as unlikely , he would dance to the unofficial Uri national anthem Zoge at the Boge de Landamme , and at the victory celebration on February 20, 1994, Stadler actually danced on the main square in Altdorf , and the images of the dancing Landammann went through the media across Switzerland. The fame as a dancing Landammann haunts him to this day and sometimes even bothers him, as it completely overshadows his other political achievements.

On December 19, 2012 Hansruedi Stadler was appointed by Federal Councilor Simonetta Sommaruga (SP) as a delegate for the victims of compulsory welfare measures. He also presides over the round table for the victims of compulsory welfare measures, which was composed equally of representatives of the former victims and the legal successors of the former perpetrator organizations, which held its constituent meeting on June 13, 2013.

Stadler is Dr. iur. and by profession a lawyer and notary . He lives in Altdorf, is married and has two children. His son Simon Stadler is also politically active.
