Roberto Schmidt (born July 16, 1962 in Sierre ; entitled to live in Erschmatt , Guttet-Feschel and Leuk ) is a Swiss politician ( CSPO / CVP ). He has been a State Councilor for the Canton of Valais since 2017 .

Career

Schmidt is a lawyer. From 2001 to 2005 he was in the council of Leuk, from 2005 to 2017 he served as mayor .

In the elections on October 21, 2007 , he was elected to the National Council by the Canton of Valais . As a member of the Christian Social People's Party in Upper Valais (CSPO), he was a member of the CVP-EPP-glp (CEg) parliamentary group until 2011 . Schmidt was a member of the State Political Commission and the Commission for Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy until 2011. He was not re-elected in the elections on October 23, 2011 , but again in the 2015 National Council elections , where he was a member until 2017.

In the elections of the cantonal government in March 2017, Roberto Schmidt achieved the best result in the history of the Valais State Council elections with 59,616 votes.

Roberto Schmidt is the artistic director of the Leuk operetta and co-initiator of this cultural event. He is also the conductor of the church choirs St. Stephan in Leuk-Stadt and St. Theresia in Susten.

Schmidt is married and lives in Leuk-Stadt . He has a grown daughter.
