Guttet-Feschel is a political and civic community in the Leuk district and a parish of the Leuk dean's office in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland . The community emerged on October 1, 2000 from the two former communities Guttet and Feschel ( French Veschel ).

history

Good

In 1261 Guttet was first mentioned as de gottet and between 1715 and 1720 as Goutet . In addition to the center, the hamlets of Grächmatten and Wiler also belong to the mountain village on the northern slope of the Rhone Valley near Leuk . The village belonged to the parish of Leuk; a church is first mentioned in 1520, which was rebuilt in 1874. The rectorate , raised to its own parish in 1863 , had existed since 1822. Feschel belonged to this from the beginning until 1903 and from 1925 onwards.

Feschel

Feschel was first mentioned in a document with the name Vexli or Veselli . Excavations such as bronze objects show that the area has been populated since the 5th century AD. In 1499 the St. Michels Chapel was mentioned in a document, which has been called St. Antonius Chapel since 1699. The right of grazing in the hamlet of Obern-Galm is also documented (1580).

Cooperation between Guttet and Feschel had already existed since 1925 through the common parish. In 1969 the cemeteries were merged and in 1972 a school was founded together, so that important institutions were divided, which contributed significantly to the merger.

coat of arms

On December 15, 2004, the two communities voted on a common coat of arms. The result was the merging of the two coats of arms. However, since the municipal law requires that the election of a coat of arms has to be done by a ballot, the population had to vote again on April 18, 2010. The voters decided on a new common coat of arms. On September 12, 2010, the new community flag was inaugurated. The Swiss flags and coats of arms foundation criticized the first version of the new municipal coat of arms as un heraldic and unsuitable.

The current coat of arms shows a shepherd's staff, a mountain of three and a sun. While the shepherd's crook stands for the holy helix and thus Guttet , the sun and the stylized mountain symbolize Feschel .
