Ergisch ( Valais German : Ärgisch ) is a Munizipalgemeinde and a civic community of Leuk district and a parish of the deanery Leuk in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland .

Ergisch lies at 1086  m above sea level. M. on a terrace almost 500 m above the Rhone valley , east of the exit of the Turtmann valley coming from the south .

Surname

Argessa is the historical name of Ergisch. It means something like white / silver rock . The bedrock on which the mountain village is built is also of the same color.

Argessa is also the name of the drum and piper association based in the village. The association maintains the traditional game of drum and whistle in historical uniform, as their ancestors, the rice walkers , did. The uniform is worn in the colors of the municipal coat of arms (red and blue).
