Albinen ( Valais German Albinu [ albɪnʊ ]; French Arbignon / Albignon ) is a village, a municipality and a civic community of the district Leuk and a parish of the deanery Leuk of the German-speaking part canton of Valais in Switzerland .
Surname
The place is first mentioned in 1224 as albignun . The place name could go back to a Latin personal name * Albinione .
geography
Albinen is located on a southern slope at the entrance to the Dalatal .
Side streets connect Albinen with Leukerbad and the town of Leuk .
The sights of Albinen include numerous preserved Valais mountain farmhouses and barns.
The village church is built in a very modern style after the old church was destroyed by an earthquake . There is a private mill museum in the village, which is open once a week.

economy
Today the village lives mainly from tourism. Due to its proximity to the Torrent cable cars , it is mainly visited by winter sports tourists in winter. Challenging hikes can be undertaken from Albinen. Demanding tours are also possible, for example hike the route to Leukerbad via the Albinen ladders.
