Jean Henri Dunant (born November 12, 1934 in Zurich , resident in Geneva ; † October 19, 2015 ) was a Swiss surgeon and politician ( SVP ).

Live and act

Dunant grew up in Basel , studied medicine at the University of Basel and received his doctorate in 1961. Dunant then trained as a specialist in surgery and became a private lecturer at the University of Basel. He was married and had a son.

From the 1999 elections, Dunant sat in the National Council . He was President of the Parliamentary Group on Drug Policy. From 2006 to 2009 he was President of the SVP of the canton of Basel-Stadt and a member of the Central Board of SVP Switzerland. Due to an illness, Dunant resigned from his membership in the National Council on November 6, 2010. Sebastian Frehner took over for him , his successor as President of SVP Basel-Stadt.
