Ulrich Schlüer

Ulrich Walter Schlüer (born October 17, 1944 in Zurich ) is a Swiss politician ( Republican Movement , then SVP ).

biography

After studying history and German literature at the University of Zurich , he received his licentiate in 1970 and received his doctorate in 1978. From 1969 he worked as a high school history teacher in Zurich.

Ulrich Schlüer has been married since 1970, has four children and lives in Flaach . In the Swiss Army he held the rank of private .

politics

Viewpoints

Schlüer represents national conservative views. He opposes Switzerland's rapprochement with international organizations such as the UN , NATO and the EU .

In September 2007 he gained notoriety outside of Switzerland when he was interviewed by the British daily The Independent .

Organizations

Schlüer was secretary to the controversial Republican James Schwarzenbach . He was a board member of the working group Southern Africa (asa), founded in 1982 , which wanted to support the apartheid regime in South Africa by influencing reporting in the Swiss media. Schlüer is a member of the Campaign for an Independent and Neutral Switzerland (AUNS). He is the managing director of Safety for All (Sifa).

Schlüer is a member of the Flaach Initiative Committee of the Federal Popular InitiativeAgainst the building of minarets ” , launched in May 2007 and adopted in November 2009 .

Mandates

From 1994 to 1998 Schlüer was mayor of Flaach . From 2000 to 2005 he was a member of the Zurich Constitutional Council and chaired the SVP parliamentary group there.

In 1995 Schlüer was in the National Council elected and in 1999 and 2003 re-election. In the 2007 elections , Schlüer was not confirmed, but moved up as the first substitute candidate after Ueli Maurer was elected to the Federal Council on March 2, 2009. In the 2011 National Council elections , he was again not re-elected.

Schlüer was a member of the Foreign Policy Commission from 1995 to 2011 and the Security Policy Commission from 1999 to 2011 .

Ulrich Schlüer founded Schweizerzeit Verlags AG in 1979 and was editor-in-chief of the national conservative newspaper Schweizerzeit until 2015 .

"Citizen and Christian"

Until 1996, Schlüer was Vice President and Delegate of Bürger und Christ Verlags AG , based in Flaach. The publisher was u. a. Editor of the magazine “ Bürger und Christ ” and organized conferences on the topics of church, state and politics. The content of “Citizens and Christians” was considered homophobic as well as Islamophobic and related to the Association for the Promotion of Psychological Knowledge of Human Beings (VPM).

"Protea"

Schlüer was Vice President of Protea Publications AG based in Flaach. He held this position until the AG was dissolved in 1996. The joint-stock company set itself the task of “issuing publications and organizing seminars on the subject of southern Africa”. Schlüer's statements in the editions of the Protea publication were in favor of the white government in South Africa and were considered tendentious.
