In the elections on October 23, 2011 , von Rotz stood against Karl Vogler ( CSP OW ), whose candidacy was supported by the FDP , CVP , and SP . With a relatively high participation rate of 64.27%, Karl Vogler won with 8,896 votes against Christoph von Rotz with 6,739 votes.

Von Rotz was a member of the Obwalden cantonal council from June 2002 to June 2008 and was re-elected to the council in 2014.

From 2011 to 2017 Christoph von Rotz was President of the Association of Business Informatics (VIW) . The qualified computer scientist is married and lives in Sarnen.

Political activity

During his tenure in the National Council, von Rotz submitted 45 proposals , including eight motions . The latter dealt mainly with public and private transport and its financing, with the postal and telecommunications system and the financing of family-internal childcare. In a modified form and against the will of the Federal Council, his motions for setting the federal payment deadlines and contemporary technical regulations for emergency calls were transferred . After von Rotz left the National Council, the latter was taken over by his parliamentary colleague Sebastian Frehner ( Canton Basel-Stadt ) and completed.

The following motions attracted particular media attention.

  • In June 2010, Christoph von Rotz submitted an interpellation to the National Council demanding information on the Federal Council's approach to reserving the third lane as an express line on three-lane motorways and making their use dependent on the purchase of a special vignette . The move was "written off" after he left the National Council; thus the proposal , which the media described as a luxury trail and rejected by the Federal Council, was not pursued any further.
  • In November 2014, as a representative of SVP Sarnen, von Rotz submitted a counter-motion to the municipal assembly of Sarnen for the naturalization of a 22-year-old severely disabled Iraqi who can only communicate through facial expressions and gestures. The local council had advocated naturalization. Von Rotz had, among other things, raised doubts about the applicant's required basic linguistic and civic knowledge and complained about the poor integration of his family - which, however, was not eligible for naturalization. In the secret ballot he requested, his counter-motion was accepted and the application for naturalization rejected. Shortly afterwards, an appeal to the Obwalden government was announced against this decision. This was approved and the naturalization was then accepted in the second attempt.
