The Verband der Wirtschaftsinformatik (VIW) is the leading professional association for business informatics in Switzerland . As an organization of the working world (OdA), the VIW represents the interests of its members, is actively involved in IT education and acts as an alumni organization for various partner schools. VIW was founded in 1985 and currently comprises 1,500 individual and 15 corporate members. This makes the VIW the largest ICT professional association in Switzerland.

history

The association was founded in 1985 as the association of graduates from the Swiss Business Informatics School WISS. Since May 22nd, 2008 the VIW appears as the association of business informatics with a new name. As an organization of the world of work (OdA), VIW represents the interests of the world of work in IT and participates in IT education.

aims

The association acts as a mouthpiece for its members in business, politics and other professional associations. In addition, it ensures participation and codetermination in IT education. Attractive offers are made available to members and promotes networking among members for mutual benefit.

Members

The association has around 1,600 individual members and 20 corporate members and is the most important professional association for business informatics in Switzerland. All members hold one of the following degrees:

  • federal certificate of proficiency
  • federal certificate
  • federal diploma
  • an HF or NDS degree

ICTswitzerland Education Commission

The association is a member of ICTswitzerland, the umbrella organization of the most important Swiss associations in the ICT sector. Within the umbrella organization, the VIW works in the Education Commission (KB). This is the responsible body of the umbrella organization ICTswitzerland for educational matters in the ICT sector.

Organ of publication

The official publication organ is the VIW-Script, which appears monthly in Computerworld. Members automatically receive a free Computerworld subscription. In the VIW-Script, specialist articles and information on current IT topics, the association and current information from the board are published. The publication organ is open to every member as a platform and also serves as a window out of the association. VIW maintains contact with other IT associations and authorities and actively promotes opportunities for cooperation.
