Karl Vogler (born March 24, 1956 in Sarnen ) is a Swiss politician ( CSP OW ). From 2011 to 2019 he was National Councilor for the Canton of Obwalden .

Life

Vogler grew up in the Bürglen district of the Lungern community and attended the Sarnen college , which he graduated with a type B Matura in 1976 . He completed his legal studies at the University of Freiburg in Freiburg im Üechtland and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1980 with a licentiate . He has been an independent lawyer and notary since 1989.

Vogler presided over the Obwalden parish association from 2002 to 2009. Since 2011 he has been president of the Lungern parish. Vogler also presides over the Alumni Association of the Obwalden Cantonal School founded in October 2013 . He is married, has four grown children and lives in Bürglen.

Political offices

Vogler was a member of the Lungern municipal council from 1986 to 1990, where he headed the building department. From 2002 to 2009 he was a cantonal councilor in the canton of Obwalden , and from 2006 there was parliamentary group leader of the CSP.

In the elections for the National Council on October 23, 2011 , he ran against Christoph von Rotz ( SVP ). His candidacy was supported by a non-partisan committee which, in addition to his own party, also included the FDP , CVP , and SP parties . With a relatively high participation of 64.27%, Karl Vogler won the election with 8,896 votes against Christoph von Rotz with 6,739 votes. In the elections on October 18, 2015 , he was re-elected with 9,911 votes (65.5%); his competitor Daniel Wyler (SVP) received 5,227 votes (34.5%). Vogler no longer ran in the parliamentary elections on October 20, 2019 .
