Christian Social Party Obwalden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Christian Social Party Obwalden (CSP Obwalden) is a political party in the Swiss canton of Obwalden .

history

Christian trade unions and workers' associations had existed in the canton of Obwalden since the 1930s and 1940s . In 1956, people from these circles founded an independent political party that was more concerned than the existing Catholic Conservative Party with the concerns of workers. She belonged to the Christian Social Party group within the former Swiss Conservative People's Party (today Christian Democratic People's Party , CVP). The CSP and the Conservative Party (later CVP Obwalden) formed a joint parliamentary group in the Obwalden Cantonal Council even after the CSP was founded .

In 1960, a CSP representative was elected to the Obwalden government council for the first time . After the CSP had conducted an independent election campaign in 1982, the CVP terminated the parliamentary group, and since then the CSP has formed its own cantonal parliamentary group. In 2002 the CSP Obwalden resigned from the CVP Switzerland, mainly due to the tensions with the Obwalden CVP. At the time, the CSP Obwalden announced that it would concentrate on cantonal politics. From 2005 to 2010 the CSP Obwalden had observer status with the independent left-Christian Christian-Social Party in Switzerland .

Since 2010 the Obwalden CSP has not been organizationally linked to any Swiss party. From 2011 to 2019, Karl Vogler , a member of the Obwalden CSP, was elected to the Swiss National Council for the first time ; he was a member of the CVP / EPP Group .

Representation in political bodies

The CSP Obwalden has eight cantonal councilors for the 2018–2022 term of office and, since 2018, the government councilor Christian Schäli . The respective head of the Obwalden Education and Culture Department (formerly the Education Department ) has been a member of the CSP without interruption since 1964 .
