Werner Messmer

Werner Messmer (born October 25, 1945 in Riedt , Canton Thurgau ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and former President of the Swiss Association of Builders . He was a member of the National Council from 1999 to 2011 .

Messmer completed an apprenticeship as a draftsman and another as a bricklayer . After that he settled for polishing educate and made the Bauführerschule for federally qualified builder . Today he is the owner and managing director of the construction company Messmer AG civil engineering in Sulgen, founded by his grandfather .

He started his political career in 1996 when he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau. In 2000 he resigned as a cantonal councilor, having been elected to the National Council in the 1999 elections . In the 2003 elections and in 2007 he was re-elected each. At the end of the 2007–2011 legislative period, he resigned as National Councilor. Messmer was president of various associations, such as the Thurgau Chamber of Commerce and Industry , the Thurgau Trade Association and the Thurgau Master Builders Association . From 2003 to 2014 he was President of the Swiss Association of Builders (SBV).

Messmer lives in Kradolf , is married and has four children. He is co-founder of two brass bands and plays cornet and flute. In the Swiss Army he held the rank of colonel .
